i got everything running, but it is really dark, and impossible to play on any indoor sections. anybody with the same problem? and hopefully a solution? i can't afford to keep buying the nightvision goggles:)i am running: mandrake 7.2, xfree 4.0.1, wine 20001202, nvidia-0.95 drivers, with a creative geforce2 gts. i tried a few in-game things, brightness, gamma, overbrightbits, nothing makes much difference. thanks, ly

hmmm, i do remember one other person complaining about this, they got a new pc :-)..i would suggest you have a fiddle around with the brightnnes cvars in half life, they could work.. also, try fiddling with your xfree86 configs, changing colors and stuff.. try any other opengl games (tribes etc), see if they work. ask around on the wine newsgroup (comp.emulators.ms-windows.wine) - and also the xfree86 mailing list David |

I used to have the same type of problem back in Quake II days. Only when running games in GL mode. This was with a Voodoo I. It turned out that it was my monitor.. piece of garbage would go WAY to "red" when I would load Gl, hence giving it a much darker feel. I would do as crazney said and play with the gamma settings (or try a new monitor) |

yeah, my monitor is pretty dark... i fixed the problem with xgamma, lets you change you gamma on the fly. i just stuck "xgamma -gamma 3.0" in crazney's hl script, much better. xgamma is include in xfree 4.0+ now if only i was good at cs;) |
