For the first time ever, I was actually able to get in game!

I've got a G400 Max with XFree86 4.0. I know the DRI instructions are still in the works and all, but I was just wondering if my problem is common. The only problem with the game is video flickers like a madman (maybe 8-10 times per second). Not the ground or the background or the text, but everything else (players, buildings, etc.) does. I've tried running at lower res, but it doesn't help. Unfortunately, I can't set X's video mode to 640x480 because of my ghetto monitor... so maybe running it in a window is the problem (can't use DGA because wine crashes trying to switch to 640x480).

Thanks for all the help around here! Z||000001||crazney||12-05-2000||05:01 AM||dhammerton@labyrinth.net.au||Your problem has been heard of before yes..

Running in a window shouldnt effect it.

Someone came up with a way to fix DRI patch.. he now has HL successfully working on a G400 in lhl. The trick, he said, was to download the very latest xfree86 from CVS (with DRI!) and compile xfree86+dri..

On another note, I tried reinstalling hl for shites and giggles, but the installer said not enough disk space... and there definately is (several gb). What's up with that? Wine bug? Z||000003||crazney||12-05-2000||05:09 PM||dhammerton@labyrinth.net.au||Let me known the outcome of the X rebuild..

Hmmm.. not sure about that hdd space thing.. hop onto the wine irc or newsgroup and ask..

David Z||000004||may1937||12-07-2000||11:27 PM||mayof1937@crosswinds.net||So I just now tried CVS from Dec 4 (4.0.1h)... no luck. I am wondering if maybe my box is just a tad too slow (only a 400). On a happy note, I gave it a shot on my brother's T-bird w/ GeForce and it works great. Oh well for now. Z||000005||crazney||12-08-2000||01:37 AM||dhammerton@labyrinth.net.au||Nah, speed shouldnt be a problem.. if it was that, ud just find the fps would be low..

ahh.. i got an idea.. try this:

in config.cfg put:

gl_ztrick 0

that should fix it

The bug will be fixed soon in Mesa. ATI and 3dfx users have the same problem as well as ppl who play QuakeForge. How many frames do you get cl_showfps 1 ???
